Classic, Stylish Engagement Photos in Downtown Halifax Nova Scotia

One of my favorite parts of being a wedding photographer is getting to plan unique engagement shoots with my couples! I’m excited to finally share Shannon and Alex’s downtown Halifax engagement photos – and keep an eye on my blog for their beautiful wedding day post coming later this summer!

Shannon and Alex are such a fun and classy couple, and we wanted a setting that would match their unique style! Planning their engagement shoot, we wanted something a little different from the typical beach or waterfront Halifax photos you’re used to seeing. We settled on an evening of exploring downtown Halifax, and the beautiful urban setting ended up being a perfect backdrop to our photo session!

We started the evening downtown grabbing some drinks and fries together. After cocktails, we walked around downtown Halifax together, taking photos as we went. We were able to shoot in several different spots, starting on Market Street for a clean, classic and neutral background.

I like to start engagement photo shoots by grabbing drinks together — whether that’s cocktails, coffee or tea! It feels better than just pulling up to a location, meeting for the first time outside of our cars, and getting into shooting right away. Hanging out for a bit beforehand helps all of us feel relaxed, and helps to ease those pre-shoot jitters!

We then made our way over to Granville Street for a change of scenery – it’s such an underrated and beautiful downtown area. The architecture is stunning, and provided the perfect background for some truly unforgettable couple photos!

We ended the photo session walking around the Historic Properties, which looked so romantic with all the string lights!

My goal is always to make photo sessions fun and comfortable for you and your partner! Engagement photos offer a perfect opportunity to get comfortable in front of the camera, have a great time with each other, and get to know your photographer a bit before your wedding day.
