Intimate Literary-Themed Wedding at The Halifax Club

Courtney and Jonathan’s wedding at The Halifax Club was an elegant ode to their love of literature, described by them as “Jane Austen meets Bridgerton with a dash of geek chic”! This couple is so sweet, and I loved photographing their wedding day. One thing I admire about Courtney and Jonathan is that they are always laughing together—they have such a healthy relationship, and they’re so fun to be around!

The couple met on Bumble and quickly hit it off, bonding over their hobbies and favorite books. It wasn’t long before Jonathan knew that Courtney was the one! One night, when they were out, he had his sister sneak into their house and set up candles, rose petals, and Courtney’s favorite chocolate bar. When they returned home, and Courtney saw the romantic setup, he proposed. She was shocked—and, of course, said yes!

Wedding at The Halifax Club

Courtney and Jonathan envisioned an intimate wedding with their closest loved ones present and found the perfect venue in The Halifax Club. The venue’s historic charm impressed them from the start, and the elegance of its indoor spaces sealed the deal! Nova Scotia’s weather can be unpredictable, so it was important for the couple to find a venue where they would be happy to host their wedding indoors. As it turned out, their wedding day was rainy, and I was grateful for the beautiful, naturally lit setting as their photographer.

The Halifax Club is one of my favorite venues to work at because of its all-around excellence. The staff is friendly, the food is delicious, and the building’s aesthetics are perfect for an elegant wedding like Courtney and Jonathan’s. There was so much rain on their wedding day that other parts of the city experienced flash flooding, but the club kept everyone warm and dry. Thankfully, the weather eventually cleared up, and we snapped portraits in front of the building and around Hollis Street. The historic architecture fit perfectly with the vibe of the day!

Shuttling to another portrait location was initially planned for the afternoon. However, Courtney and Jonathan realized it would be more stressful than taking more photos at the venue. I helped them decide to stay by explaining that we could take portraits downtown instead. Ultimately, they were glad of their choice because it saved time and hassle! If something similar happens on your wedding day, I’m happy to go with the flow and find beautiful locations for portraits, no matter where we are. Your day is about you, so you should prioritize your comfort while trusting your photographer to work their magic!

Personalized, Literary-Themed Details

Courtney and Jonathan’s reception featured intricate, personalized details celebrating their love of literature. They collected vintage books to feature in their centerpieces and personalized their bookmark favors, which doubled as place cards. Their color palette, featuring gold and deep plum hues, had an “academic” vibe that also felt completely elegant with the addition of bud vase centerpieces and flickering candles.

Delicious food and drinks were important to the couple, who got creative with their signature cocktail menu! They named the “Black Sunset” after Jonathan’s high school band and “The Reading Nook” after Courtney’s favorite hobby. The menu also featured a cucumber and lime mocktail, hilariously titled “Courtney’s Not Pregnant,” to avoid questions from nosy relatives! The Halifax Club provided onsite catering and bartending services and exceeded everyone’s expectations. The appetizers, entrées, and desserts were fantastic, but the late-night poutine station had to be the highlight!

I’m so glad I could capture Courtney and Jonathan’s wedding at The Halifax Club! The day was full of laughter, and the décor showcased the couple’s unique personalities. It would be my honor to document this incredible moment in your love story with authentic, timeless imagery. Contact me today to receive more information about my services!
