Vicky and Steve’s wedding at Oceanstone Resort embraced the seaside setting through and through! The powder blue and white palette was perfect for a summer wedding and reflected the surrounding landscape. They held their ceremony overlooking the sea and planned a stunning tented reception. This meant their guests could enjoy the Nova Scotian coastline’s natural beauty all day long.
The couple initially planned their wedding for June 2021 but postponed it to July 2022 due to COVID restrictions. They knew they wanted to host a big party with out-of-town friends and family, so the wait was completely worth it. Meanwhile, they eloped at Trout Point Lodge, and I had the pleasure of capturing it!
Plans had to pivot several times throughout Vicky and Steve’s wedding planning process, but they never lost their vision for their special day. I went with the flow of whatever needed to happen and did everything I could to help them achieve their dream wedding day. When it finally arrived, it was everything they hoped for and more! They’ve become good friends, and I couldn’t be prouder to have photographed their wedding day. I’m so grateful for this job and the incredible people I’ve connected with over the years!
Wedding at Oceanstone Resort
Vicky and Steve chose Oceanstone Resort to be their wedding venue, and it was the perfect place to bring their vision for an elegant coastal wedding to life. The sweeping ocean views at the resort are gorgeous and were a huge selling point for the couple! Since the couple was inviting loved ones from out of town, Oceanstone’s ability to host everyone on site made everything easy for their guests. On top of everything else, the venue is near Peggy’s Cove, one of the couple’s favorite places to visit on a trip to Halifax. Everything added up to make Oceanstone Resort the ideal spot to host their wedding!
As their photographer, I was thrilled they chose the resort as their venue! I’ve always loved shooting at Oceanstone because it combines elegant indoor spaces with outdoor oceanfront beauty. The resort has so many photo-worthy locations throughout the grounds, and I sure took advantage of them on Vicky and Steve’s wedding day. It was drizzling in the morning, so we shot family photos indoors and first look photos on the covered porch. However, the rain soon cleared up, enabling the couple to host their outdoor ceremony as planned and snap portraits on the beach afterward.
Throughout the day, Oceanstone continually proved why it is one of the best wedding venues in Nova Scotia. The resort’s staff provided in-house catering and bartending services and were incredibly friendly and efficient. Plus, the food and custom cocktails were fantastic!
Custom Wedding Details
Vicky and Steve personalized their wedding with custom details throughout, which made the day feel even more special. Their dog, Lenny, stole the show at their ceremony in his tuxedo and was featured in their décor! Driftwood Calligraphy created a custom illustration of him to stamp into the wax seal on their invitation suite and feature on their cocktail napkins. Lenny is a Nova Scotia Duck Tolling Retriever, so he was also the perfect way to highlight the wedding’s location.
Steve is a pilot, which inspired the couple to incorporate several references to aviation throughout the day. Their escort cards were luggage tags, and they named their tables after flight terms, including Alpha, Bravo, and Charlie. In addition, Steve wore a silver airplane clip, which stood out against his navy blue necktie.
Steve’s family owns and operates McFadgen’s Bakery in Cape Breton, so of course, they provided delicious donuts and cake for the couple’s reception! Another noteworthy detail was the couple’s custom champagne wall created by their planner, Hannah of Graceful Weddings & Events. Their guests loved walking up to the wall and taking a glass of champagne from the clever, built-in shelves. Their wedding was the wall’s first use, but Hannah now rents it out for other Nova Scotia weddings!
Halifax Wedding Photographer
I’m so glad I could get to know Vicky and Steve and capture their love, first for their elopement and then for their wedding at Oceanstone Resort! From scouting the venue for the best photo locations to taking their stationery and accessories home when there wasn’t enough time for detail shots on the wedding day, I loved being part of every stage of the process. It’s my goal to provide my couples with exceptional service in photography and beyond. You can learn more about my services by contacting me—I’d love to hear from you!
