As a wedding photographer, it’s important to surround yourself with other photographers you know and trust. Why? Well, because you might just be having a baby the week before a scheduled wedding.
Melissa and Andrew booked me for their 2024 wedding all the way back in 2022! I was so excited to shoot their Scottish-inspired wedding at Agricola Street Brasserie, but I learned that my first baby was due just a week before their wedding. Luckily, I was able to hand off the day of shooting to my talented friends Sinead Dubeau and Kat Mason!
Thankfully, Melissa and Andrew understood and were excited to work with Sinead and Kat. A few months before the wedding, Melissa and I scouted out the area around the Agricola Street Brasserie to find a few locations for their wedding day portraits. And I even scheduled a mini-engagement shoot for the couple to get to know Sinead before the wedding day! Everyone got along great, and I edited all the photos so they were as close to my style as possible. On the day of their wedding, I was home with my newborn daughter, confident that I had a great team taking care of my clients.
Details & First Look in Downtown Halifax
Every piece of Melissa and Andrew’s wedding day was intentional, from the rings passed down from Andrew’s grandparents to the colours pulled from Andrew’s family tartan! Even their stationery was designed as a nod to Andrew’s Scottish heritage. When I asked them what the best part of their day was, Melissa and Andrew agreed that their first look was their favourite memory. They had their first look on the roof of their apartment building in downtown Halifax, where they exchanged personal vows and spent some time together before the busyness of the wedding day.
Wedding Ceremony on the Agricola Street Brasserie Rooftop
Melissa and Andrew’s highest priority was ensuring their family and friends had a good time! For them, a good time always starts with good food and drink. This is why they chose to get married on the rooftop of Agricola Street Brasserie and have their reception in the restaurant downstairs! Plus, they love the urban ambiance of the restaurant.
The rooftop wedding ceremony was charming and full of funny moments, like when their flower girl meandered slowly down the aisle before her brother encouraged her to “go crazy” and spread flower petals everywhere.
Wedding Reception at Agricola Street Brasserie’s Restaurant & Bar
As Halifax locals, Melissa and Andrew had dined at the Brasserie before. They were so excited to share some of their favourite dishes, like the brussels sprout Caesar salad and specialty cheesecake, with their guests. They also offered two specialty cocktails: a dark’n stormy (Andrew’s favourite) and an old-fashioned (popular with Melissa’s family)! The couple danced to “Joy of My Life” by John Fogerty, who originally wrote the song for his wife. After that, the dance floor opened to the guests who had a blast!
Everything about Melissa and Andrew’s wedding felt purposeful. I could feel the joy radiating from the images as I edited them! If you’re worried about life interfering with your wedding photography, rest assured that nothing will get in the way of you having images to remember your wedding by.
There are very few reasons I would not be able to make it to your wedding. Having a baby is top of the list! Contact me to learn more about how I ensure stress-free wedding photography – no matter what life throws at us!
