This Old English-inspired wedding styled shoot at The Halifax Club combined classic stationery and décor details with dried floral accents and trendy bridal accessories for a vintage-meets-modern feel. The historic venue in downtown Halifax was the perfect backdrop!
I photographed a styled shoot at The Halifax Club in 2022 and had so much fun! The venue was picturesque, and the vendor team was so talented. So, when the venue’s general manager and wedding coordinator, Meaghan MacDonald, asked if I wanted to collaborate on another shoot, I said yes immediately. We planned every detail of this shoot’s design together which was so fun!
Meaghan and I wanted to plan a shoot around an Old English-inspired wedding, which perfectly suited the original architecture of The Halifax Club. The couple who modelled for us were my real wedding clients, Angela and Jascha, whose real wedding I photographed a few months later! They even featured several printed photos from this shoot at their wedding because they loved them so much.

Old English-Inspired Wedding Details
Meaghan and I knew we wanted to incorporate an elegant floral pattern into the linen on the tablescape. We looked far and wide for a tablecloth that fit our vision but couldn’t find the right thing. Ultimately, we transformed a neutral floral duvet cover from IKEA into our dream tablecloth. It was the perfect backdrop for the colourful floral centrepieces and taper candles, which we accented with scattered fresh fruit and vintage glassware provided by MacFarlands Events.
Ece from High and Dry Flowers did an incredible job with the floral design! She blended fresh flowers with dried elements to complement the vintage meets modern aesthetic of our Old English-inspired wedding vision. The bride carried a bouquet of dried flowers in a blushing neutral palette with pops of green.
Meanwhile, the table centrepieces brought colour into the design, with fresh orange and pink flowers interspersed with dried flowers and grasses. The “broken arch” backdrop for the ceremony also blended dried and fresh florals to stunning effect.
We just about died when we saw the stationery suite created by Lupin Design Studio! With delicate illustrations of flowers and birds and luxurious finishing touches, including vellum, pearls, and a floral-embossed gold wax seal, it was nothing short of perfection. The blue and white chinoiserie-inspired design also coordinated seamlessly with the décor on the tablescapes.
Pearl Motifs and a Savannah Miller Wedding Gown
The bride wore the ARIA gown by Savannah Miller, a romantic crepe style with a sweetheart neckline and removable puffed sleeves, from local bridal boutique Yours, by E. We loved that the sleeves allowed us to create two totally different looks!
For the ceremony shots, she wore the dress sleeveless with her hair styled down in soft curls by Danielle Grasley and swept back with a pearl headband from Miss Foxine Couture. The pearls coordinated with the tiny pearl trim on the Savannah Miller gown and gave a nod to the pearls in the invitation suite!
Meanwhile, the groom looked dashing in a blue Johnny Custom suit with a satin bow tie, dried floral pocket boutonnière, and gold watch to bring the look together.
We switched up the bride’s look after the ceremony, attaching the puffed sleeves to her gown and sweeping her hair into a romantic updo studded with pearls. She also wore tulle elbow-length gloves by Miss Foxine Couture for a modern touch.
Then, she and her groom cut into the loveliest Lambeth cake by Lemon & Lavender Bake Shop! The vintage-inspired design incorporated shades of dusty blue, pink, and orange to coordinate with the flowers and décor, with pearl accents as another nod to the invitation suite and the bride’s gown.
Bridal Portraits at The Halifax Club
After cutting their cake, the bride and groom posed for photos by The Halifax Club’s sophisticated bar. Then, I whisked them away for some portraits outside – the club’s panelled wooden door and elegant stairs always make a beautiful photo backdrop. We also went on a short walk exploring Hollis Street and capturing candid photos as we went, which became some of my favorite photos from the day!
I’m so grateful to the team of Halifax vendors who helped Meaghan and me create this Old English-inspired wedding shoot and to Angela and Jascha for being our models! It’s always rewarding to do these shoots with a couple who is really in love. They genuinely enjoyed themselves throughout the day, which made my job as the photographer easy! Not only that, but we had even more fun taking their actual wedding photos after having the opportunity to “practice.”
