Album Design Outsourcing

Hi, I’m Alyssa!

I’ve been a wedding photographer for 10 years, and I happen to really love album design. And I’m guessing since you’re reading this, you don’t.

Let me take this off your plate so you can focus on serving your clients in all the ways you do best!

Keep in mind that I will design albums based on the preferences you share — i.e. if you don’t want images to go across the gutter or want images cropped a certain way, I will always stick to that when designing your albums!

Album Design Pricing

  • Wedding Album Design — $160 per album
The most popular album design I do! For any wedding/elopement.

  • Single Photo Session Album Design — $120 per album
This is for albums including photos from a single photo shoot, such as engagement, boudoir, newborn, etc.

  • Multi-Session Album Design — $160 per album
This is for albums including photos from multiple sessions, such as Baby’s First Year, etc.

  • Additional Client Revisions — $25 per extra round of revisions
Three rounds of revisions are included in every design, which is plenty for most clients!

  • Client Communication — $100 per album
I’ll handle all client communication for you, from selecting images to ordering the album from a lab of your choice. This can be done either through an email address you have or my personal email address. It will not be connected to my business name in any way.

All prices are listed in USD and can be paid by credit card or with PayPal.

Details

  • I use SmartAlbums software to design albums. If you have Photoshop templates you’d prefer me to use, that’s not a problem, but I will charge an hourly rate of $25/hour instead of a flat rate — working in Photoshop is tedious and takes a lot longer than SmartAlbums. I highly recommend starting out with a SmartAlbums design first and going from there.

  • Image selection from the client photo gallery is included with every album design — however I highly encourage having a list of favorite photos to start from you/your client. This speeds up the design process and gives me an idea of what photos to include in the rest of the design.

  • Every album design includes up to 3 rounds of client revisions, after that a $25 fee will be charged for each round of changes. Most clients don’t have changes past the second proof, this is just for those very particular clients!

  • I can upload album spreads to a proofing site of your choice for the client to view & make changes. For proofing, I recommend using something that allows clients to make comments easily, such as Pixellu Cloud Proofing, Album Prufr, or Pic-time.

  • If you’d like me to handle all client communications from image selection all the way to making cover choices and ordering the album, that’s definitely an option! It may be worth it for your sanity and well-being, and I’m happy to help in this way.

  • If budget is a roadblock to moving forward, please still book a call with me — I’d love to chat and see if we can make something work!

 FAQs

  • I don’t put a limit on it, as most album labs limit the number of spreads anyways. Most photographers I’ve worked with offer albums with anywhere from 10-25 spreads (20-50 pages). The wedding albums I offer my own clients include 20 spreads/40 pages, which is typically plenty of space to tell the story of a wedding day beautifully.

  • While I don’t set a limit for the number of images in an album, less is definitely more, especially for smaller albums or a smaller number of spreads. Most wedding albums I design have between 70-100 photos in them.

If there are too many photos, they’ll have to be smaller on each page, and can make for a crowded design, which just isn’t ideal.

A carefully curated selection of images allows for some pages to just have one or two photos on them, really allowing the “hero shots” to shine!

  • Yes! For an extra $100 per album, I’ll handle all the client communication, image selection, album design, sending the design to the client for proofing, helping them select a cover material, and ordering the album through the lab of your choice.

  • There are a ton of great album companies to choose from, with a wide range of prices, papers, and cover materials. I personally love RedTree Albums, Indie Print Co., and Miller’s.

If you’d like help making a decision on what lab to go with and what cover materials to offer to your clients, I’d be happy to help consult you on that.

  • The main thing to keep in mind when you are selling albums (and outsourcing the design portion to me) is to make sure you are marking them up plenty to allow you to make a profit. Most photographers mark up the album cost 2-3 times!
